(trees and other things)
September 8th 2014 I decided I wanted to get really good at drawing trees.
January 1st 2015 I started doing a daily sketch challenge.

free draw friday - lazy draw/new markers
I did this doodle:
with these markers:Whenever I get new art stuff I like to just doodle and play with them. so far I can say i like these markers and the colours work well together. I don't actually read manga or draw in that style but I have been watching an obsessive amount of Fairy Tail (an amazing anime that you should go watch right now) and it has altered the colour theme in my mind to much brighter warmer tones. I like that it is easier to make textures and layers with these than most markers I have played with in the past.

sketchdaily - The Mysteries of Harris Burdick
This was a huge challenge for me, it has been years since I actually tried to draw art that other people did and even when I used to do it with some regularity in school I was never particularly good at it (possibly because I am lazy and have a wandering mind).
Any way all that aside here is today's sketch daily.

Sketch Daily - someone else's style
For this post, I was still on my adventure time kick so I drew me and my cat Ira in the style of Adventure Time.
Then I drew my best friends. Kaja with her dog and cat and Kelvin with what I imagine his Adventure Time companion would be.

Sketch Daily - Free Draw Friday
I had such a good time with / was so disappointed in my drawing yesterday that I decided to do more Adventure Time.

Sketchdaily 8
Today's prompt was an artist who works on adventure time so I doodled Marceline. Crayola markers are less than ideal to work with. Also in retrospect I should have swapped the colors I used for her shirt and skin.

Sketchdaily - Spirit Animal
"I don't give a hoot!" (also I really like drawing owls, and was jealous of Winnie the Pooh's Owl's library when I was a kid)

Sketchdaily 5 - Desserts
For this one I drew a Red Velvet Cupcake with butter-cream icing, which is one of my favourite desserts. I made it with my Koi Watercolour set and my all time favourite Pentel RSVP black pen.

Sketchdaily 3 - Fabric Folds
Fabric folds was actually one of my favourite studies that I ever did in any art class, it was a lot of fun to look at and then put down fabric folds, the shadows and highlights were obvious if you just took the time to look for them.
Today, however, I went a different direction with it. I have had this character in my imagination for ages so I have decided to put her down on paper. She is a bad ass treasure hunter like Indiana Jones, knows how to put baddies in their place like Dresden/The Gun Slinger, has the gymnastic moves and tenacity of Lara Croft and is a great warrior with near super natural powers like Anita Blake. She is a red head who wears combat heels, a fedora and a cloak that helps her blend into the night.
I used my Prismacolour pencil crayons for this. I see now looking at it that I should have had a more ragged/less even end to her hair. Also I discovered that way to many of my pencil crayons were broken (on the inside) so I will have to add a new set to my wish list (I have had these ones for at least ten years).

SketchDaily 2 - "Turnip"
For today's Sketchdaily the suggestion was a "Turnip". I spent the first 24 years of my life believing that Rutabagas were Turnips. So I have painted (Acrylic with a back wash of blue watercolour) a Rutabaga. Rutabagas have yellow flesh where as Turnips are white (like a Radish). Rutabagas also have a more red tint to their skin where as turnips are a bit more purple (aubergine). I actually doubt that I have ever in my life had a Turnip, I don't know if they just don't grow here or if Rutabaga's were cheaper enough and similar enough that my mom bought them instead always.
I tried to get the white stem things on the bottom to show up, it didn't work very well, so I put the blue wash "behind" them which didn't help at all. I should have put a darker background down first. I goggled a few images of Rutabaga plants and they have very purple stems so I tried to make that pretty. I could have done a better job but didn't want to spend all day on it.
